Malgo V Ramsgate 12.09.10

Malgo Ladies 4 – Ramsgate Ladies 2

This was always going to be a hard game, not least because of the diminished squad available for selection which included Goal Keeper Cooper still injured from the previous week. Thankfully, left back Gooderham stepped up to take on the challenge of goal keeper for the game.

Ramsgate started strongly and on 7 mins they broke quickly on Malgo breaking through their defence and shooting for goal. Their shot beat stand-in keeper Gooderham and rebounded of the upright towards Malgo’s incoming defender Zaborska and hitting her on the hand. Ramsgate appealed for the penalty and to their delight the spot kick was awarded from which Ramsgate opened the scoring going 1 up.

Finding themselves 1 nil down was starting to become familiar, reminiscent of the previous week. Malgo steadied themselves and started to play their passing game with Wallace putting a ball out wide to Hensman who put in a great first time cross into Ramsgate box towards Dawson who’s mistimed shot was easily gathered by Ramsgate’s keeper. Malgo kept working hard to get on equal terms with Ramsgate and on 12 min Golding cleared the ball from Malgo’s half toward France who controls and slides in her strike partner Dawson who sells Ramsgate’s keeper a dummy and side foots home Malgo’s equaliser.

Malgo continued to battle hard to gain the upper hand but Ramsgate weren’t ready to concede which caused some forced passes going astray by Malgo which kept their defensive line of Zaborska, Clarke and Golding working hard. In spells Malgo’s midfield of Relph, Seymour and Wallace got the better of Ramsgate’s midfield. On 21 mins France collected a lose ball and spotted Berry and passed the ball to her wide on Malgo’s left. Berry ran on into the Ramsgate half driving a shot across their goal just wide. The battle in midfield continued with no quarter being given by either team and on 22 mins Wallace won a free kick which she fired over the Ramsgate goal.

Ramsgate too had their chances but Malgo’s stand-in goalie Gooderham made some great saves to keep Malgo on level terms.

The second half McCafferty came on for Dawson which meant a reordering of the Malgo team; Hensman playing up front with France and Wallace moving out to the right. This allowed Relph to get forward and on 51 mins an interchange of passes between Relph and Hensman put France and Berry in to pressure the Ramsgate goal.

Ramsgate were not ready to give up and continued to drive on to get another goal and, if not for a great save by Gooderham on 62 mins to save a great shot by Ramsgate’s forward they could well have taken the lead. This spurred Malgo on and on 65 mins Berry drove into Ramsgate’s half and put in a great cross for France who got in front of the defender and side foot into the net – Malgo 2 – 1 Ramsgate.

On 70 mins the pendulum swung in Ramsgate’s favour when their forward, through on goal lobbed a ball towards Malgo’s goal which bounced over the advancing Gooderham and into the net. Malgo 2 – 2 Ramsgate. The roller coaster continued as Seymour passed the ball out to Berry wide on Malgo’s left who put in an excellent cross which Hensman got on the end of and scored for Malgo on 77 mins. Malgo 3 – 2 Ramsgate.

There was not much between the two evenly match teams and Malgo’s defence had to continue to be resolute to withstand the Ramsgate pressure and Gooderham was called upon to make some great saves. It was not until 86 mins when Malgo managed to put some daylight between the two teams. Wallace drove on down Malgo’s right and crossed in a great ball for the now injured France to tap home her second and Malgo’s fourth. Malgo 4 – 2 Ramsgate.

The game finished 4 – 2, a hard earned victory by Malgo Ladies.
