Island Eagles v Malgo 19.09.10

Island Eagles 0 – 8 Malgo

Malgo Ladies recorded an impressive victory over Island Eagles as they played their third game of the season.

Goalkeeper Cooper was rested for the game to ensure her damaged hand was fully recovered, Freeman and Gooderham shared the goalkeeping duty for the game. Malgo started strongly and it was not long before they were well up in the ascendancy, dominating the midfield. Despite this dominance with shots hitting the bar and upright, Malgo could not penetrate Island Eagles goal until 20 mins in when France broke the deficit with a well taken shot.

Buoyed by the goal Malgo pressed again looking for a second goal but Eagles had got 9 players behind the ball making it difficult to work a way through the middle. Malgo’s second came from their right flank where Hensman found herself in space and hit a well struck shot across the Eagle’s Keeper into the bottom corner on 35 mins. Eagles did manage to put the ball into Malgo’s net but Malgo’s defence had quickly pushed up and caught the Eagles player in an offside position so the goal did not stand.

Malgo continued to use the flanks this time switching the ball wide to their left where Berry crossed in to the Eagles box and France met the ball and hit the back of the net for her second on 40 mins. Eagles mounted a few breakouts but Malgo’s defence of Golding, Clarke and Gooderham dealt with them well. The first half finished 3 – 0 to Malgo but for the keeper and the woodwork of the goal it could have been more.

The start of the second half saw Browning on for Hensman to good effect and her persistence working down Malgo’s right flank paid off with her first Malgo goal on 57 mins. Gooderham also swapped with Freeman in goal, Freeman taking Gooderman’s place on the left of defence. Wallace and France did not give Eagles defence any respite and got their reward as France netted another 2 in the second half. On 60 mins Malgo made another substitution with Brimsted coming on for Zaborska. This saw a slight shuffling of the pack as Brimsted went to centre back and Clarke moving to midfield. With the leash of defence removed Clarke pushed on and was unlucky not to score as she pressured the keeper.

Berry’s hard work all game on the left flank paid off on 75 mins as she drove into the Eagles box and slotted home her first goal for Malgo through a very narrow angle. 80 mins saw Malgo’s final substitution with Bray coming on for Berry. This saw Browning move to the left flank with Bray playing on the right. It did not take her long to get into the thick of things feeding in some great crosses. Wallace worked hard to open up her goal scoring account but despite a hat full of chances today was not going to be her day. Bray opened up goal scoring account on her debut on 87 mins when an unfortunate goalkeeping mistake by what had been a great performance by Eagles keeper saw her shot roll into the goal.
